If You’re Not Watching Space Savers on Architectual Digest, WHAT Are You Doing?
Three designers use their imagination to completely blow your mind.
Three designers use their imagination to completely blow your mind.
Okay so. This will be 100% a spew of how much I love the Architectural Digest series, Space Savers.
If you haven’t met her, please. Let me introduce you.
Space Savers is a 10-20 minute interview style series in which three interior designers (or lifestyle geniuses) show us uncultured swines how they would design the same exact blank space with free reign - no budget or client. One canvas, three artists, each contributing something unique to the room. They can do literally whatever they want.. and girl….they do!
Reimagining roofing, kicking down kitchen walls, building Princess Diary- esque closets; sexy flintstone fireplaces, whimsical wallpaper, MOONscaper windows- all shown as 3D renderings as designers go through every single visual detail.
The designers present each of their decisions, and show us swatches of fabrics and other materials to complete the immersive experience. At the end, all three designers come together for a pow-wow to reveal and congenially compare their finished designs.
Watching Space Savers is not only an excellent opportunity to fantasize about living in these dream worlds (for free, I might add), but you’ll learn a little something too. The designers always mention vocab words like “sconces”, and name-drop artists, unique furniture brands, and design concepts you’ve likely never heard of if you’re not an interior designer. As a 20-something who daydreams about my future “dream” home, still this series opens my mind to all I can do within my personal spaces.
Watch my personal favorite episode of Space Savers featuring Lula Galeano, Laura Hodges, and Alvin Wayne, here.
